description:
|
The wellhead protection is covered under FAC 62-521 with the intent to protect potable water wells from contamination and prevent the need for replacement or restoration. The city of Ocala included these definitions in our ordinance under sec 102-31 to 102-320. The map was completed based on groundwater modeling conducted in the early 2000s. It breaks down the areas for 1-year, 5-year, and 10-year groundwater travel time to our source wells. Within these areas, certain restrictions on chemical storage can be applied based on our ordinance. The most restrictive is Zone A or the area closest (1500 feet) to the wells. We have not updated this map because of the associated cost of having another model run and we find the current map adequate. When we get the LFA wells online we will probably need to have a new model and map generated. The terms wellhead protection zones and wellfield protection zones are synonymous. |
